Chinese Porcelain Ecuelle Porringer Broth Bowl Qianlong Qing 1750    Chinese Porcelain Ecuelle Porringer Broth Bowl Qianlong Qing 1750

A relatively rare shaped Chinese export porcelain écuelle or lidded broth bowl decorated with a hand painted floral and insect pattern in polychrome enamels and an underglaze blue cell border rim. This footed, twin shell handled, lidded broth bowl, ecuelle or porringer has low relief moulding which includes a number of butterflies flowers and cartouches. The painting appears to ignore the moulding as there are a number of insects and flowers painted on top of the butterflies.

It is generally of an early 18th century silver shape and it dates to circa 1750, from the reign of the Emperor Qianlong. It has a little damage: the lid has been damaged and staple repaired, there is a little crazing to the glaze wear to the gilding, a couple of minor chips under the handles, a firing tear to the foot, no stand. Despite the damage it displays well and this is a most attractive and unusual item to add to any collection of 18th century antique Chinese porcelain. Height 4 1/4 inches (10.3 cm) Length 5 inches (12.8 cm) Diameter 3 3/8 inches (9.8 cm) Weight 250 grammes unpacked.
